Fraunhofer Association
The central assigment of the Fraunhofer Association is research for pratice. The research organisation was founded in 1949 and conducts orientated research for the benefit of the economy and the Association. Industrial companies and service renderers, as well as public services, are the contractual and commissioning parties.
The Fraunhofer Association is currently running in Germany more than 80 research institutions, of which 57 are institutes. Some 15.000 employees, most of them graduates in natural and engineering scienses, carry out an annual research volume in the order of Euro 1.4 billion.
Branches in Europe, the USA an Asia maintain close contacts with the most import current and future scientific and economic areas.
The Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic and Sytems in Duisburg (IMS) was founded in 1984/1985 and currentlly employs than 200 people. With its compentence in the fields of CMOS components and technlogy development, sensor technology, microsystem technology, chip design, Pilot-ASIC production and transponder systems, Fraunhofer IMS covers the entire microelectonics area.

The following areas of competence for thes activities were set up and reinforced long term at IMS : HW Desgin, SW Desgin, ASCI Design and Process Development.
Fraunhofer IMS is certified in conformity with DIN EN ISO 9001 and ISO TS 16949.
